Fish Skeleton
11.02.2007 - 11.02.2009
Opis:
A very rare fossil may be seen in the paleontology room. It is an 84 cm long fish skeleton preserved in triassic limestone from approximatelly 210 million years ago. This fossilized fish probably belongs to the family of Burgeriidae. Similar findings are rare in central Europe, northeastern Siberia, Madagascar, and the Arctic. It was found by geologists from the Ljubljana Geological Institute who were performing studies in the valley of Vrata. The several ten kilogram rock with the fossil was sawed out of the brittle wall on Tominek's trail to Mt. Triglav, lowered to the valley floor, and restored.
